March 27th, 2009
What a week. The Sounders have thoroughly established themselves as a world-class soccer team, we continue to dominate our March Madness pool, and our 401K has bounced back and is now worth something between dinner for two at Canlis and a 1998 Ford Taurus. Life is good. Added to that: it's now spring, biologists have discovered that chimps plan ahead, and many beer festivals are around the corner. What could be better?

Worn for the Road
Lately we have noticed a lack of options for men’s clothing—though for a while now it has been something that we haven’t exactly been able to put our finger on. We’re not talking about cutting-edge threads or extremely versatile outdoor wear with a dozen polysyllabic patented materials sewn throughout.
What we are talking about is something classic, something we recently found downtown, in fact. In the heart of the business district, Road Apparel has sat without our notice for a couple years now while we hurried from one bus to another. Now we know better, because it is definitely worthy of its own trip. Filling the gap in our wardrobe is their collection of neo-classic outdoor clothes that is stylish now, but will always be in fashion. Attention to detail, superior craftsmanship, and a fair price set these confident and relaxed clothes from Road apart from their would-be competitors.
A great selection of shoes, belts, and bags sit alongside an attractive array of sweaters, jackets, pants, and shirts that are all ready to be worn. Suddenly, we have options.

Where Music Is Music
Generally, the music we listen to is available almost anywhere. Sometimes though, we want something obscure, rare, or out of print. In this case, there is nothing more frustrating than scouring the city for a record that no one has, let alone one that nobody has even heard of.
Thankfully, the guys at Wall of Sound can relate. If you are looking for obscure or avant-garde music, look no further. The staff here knows their stuff. While they could easily fit into the “judgmental record store clerk” stereotype, they are instead helpful and talkative. If you know exactly what you want, they’ll be happy to show it to you (as we still cannot quite figure out how the store is organized). Otherwise, just ask for a recommendation.
Wall of Sound is known for its large, though incredibly rare selection of new and used electronic, industrial, noise, art rock, and indie records (and CDs). Also stocked is a good deal of traditional/pop music. Stop by whenever and do not be intimidated—you’re in good hands.

Ye Old Date Night
Not long ago, ice cream shops were part of a complete date night. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly difficult to find a good place to get ice cream in Seattle. Frozen yogurt has taken over, and though it’s good, it is not nearly the same thing.
Fear not, because Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream Shop is here to take the city back and restore the ice cream parlor date-locale in the process. If you are a frozen yogurt fanatic or simply an ice cream skeptic, believe us, this place is good, and your date will be wowed—unless she's vegan, of course. The company clearly prides itself on a lot of things (the store is nicely designed, the music is well-chosen), but the real star is the ice cream. The modern Wallingford shop offers sixteen impressive flavors including Balsamic Strawberry, Honey Lavender, and Salted Caramel, proudly proffered in big, friendly letters on a big, friendly chalk board.
Molly Moon’s is simultaneously restoring ice cream to its classic rich and creamy roots and updating it for the present. We could not be happier.

Watch It
Here's the thing with novelty watches: the novelty usually wears off pretty quickly. It is rare that watchmakers try for something new and edgy and retain some semblance of taste. In fact, most of our watches are wind-ups from the 40's.
Increasingly, however, there are wardrobe choices and occasions when a little new-school will suit you best. We like most of the selection from Alessi. You'll find their sturdy, bold designs at prices that'll let you choose a few.

Tri This Stuff
For all you swimmers and tri-athletes out there, we’ve found a godsend. We first ran into Triswim products at our local pool, where once again we were off to a shower that would ultimately do little to wash that chlorine smell off.
Their line of body wash, shampoo, conditioner and lotion does away with the smell and the nasty effects. They’ve also introduced TRISLIDE, a spray-on lubricant that gives increased comfort while training and racing in all three events.

That 70’s Show
The IGL JET was the 70’s desk. A monumental triumph in both form and function, the remaining models of this iconic piece of furniture were fetching obscene amounts of money at auctions over the last decade.
Well, not only have they re-issued the masterpiece, but they’ve done so using a polyurethane mix that is 100% recyclable (though you’ll have this one for the long haul). Of the four colors, we like the aluminum-metallic the best.
